The pistons in my 65 gasser were flat tops. The replacement pistons are domed with recesses under the spark plugs. The pistons came from this site under the comprehensive engine overhaul kit. My machinist did not seem to have a problem with it... Should I?

Hi, sounds like you may have diesel pistons. Not sure if the bore is the same. Any metal removed from the piston crown will lower the compression ratio. Do these have a 'round ring' cut out with a sharp point in the centre? If so you might well have pistons for an AD4.203, basically a four cylinder version of the MF 135 AD3.152.

Not sure what you mean here. If you are speaking of the piston tops, then no.

The pistons look like they have a 20cc dome (raising compression ratio) with the relief in the dome to fit around the spark plug and the valves. I have heard that there was a high altitude version available with a 9:1 compression ratio. Perhaps they have decided that all tractors need to run the 9:1 ratio instead of the 82 octane limited 7:1 ratio. Am I on the right track or do I have the wrong pistons? Thanks in Advance Aaron

Hi,
The ring that I mentioned is a toroidal cavity, that is a 'half a doughnut' cut out in the piston top (crown). In diesels this is to mix the fuel/air mixture as it is sprayed directly into this recess (direct injection). If you have a recess that aligns with the plug then it would seem that you have the right ones. Gas 65's are just about non-existant in the the so I can only make a suggestion. Good luck.

Amen on the nonexistent gassers... Parts are made out of virgin unobtainium.... Precious stuff....

I was hoping for the high comp ratio, but was not ready to go out on a limb to buy LP pistons on top of the EOK kit price. I will measure against stock and determine exactly what they are prior to install. I will also graduate the head to determine comb chamber volume. All in time... Aaron
