Pistons Revisited...

My piston saga continues. My factory pistons were flattops and my new pistons are 16-20cc domed.

My machinist looked at 'em and said "No way!".

I called this site and they had no information.

I called Rexroad in Bruceton, WV and they would not even entertain the question much less answer. I have since decided not to order any parts from them... Much less buy equipment.

I finally called Tisco and found that this piston had superceded the previous and had been used for years without complaint.

If anyone has used the replacement pistons in a MF65 G176, please post with your experience. I would like more information prior to pressing in the pins.

Thanks Aaron Ford

Aaron,
I assume the pins are pressed in on this motor which is why you don't want to mount them yet? If so, I would measure and compare compression height (or just allign an old and new piston on a single pin) then set the piston top into the combustion chamber on the head with some clay to check for clearance. Just need to know how far the original top comes up in the cylinder and diffs in compression height when comparing. The design sounds like the Farmall firecrater pistons. Compare one of those to a flattop and it would look like a "no way" job as well, but they fit.

If you are installing a new sleeve and piston kit and wouldn't mind selling me one of your old sleeves please email me. Or if you need to keep them, maybe you could take a picture and make some measurements for me? I don't need a good/re-usable sleeve, just enough to take some measurements from it. Thanks,
Stan(VA).

Sell 'em? Hell, I'll give 'em to ya. I purchased the Comprehensive Kit so I can send a whole lot more parts your way..... if ya want 'em. One piston might be seviceable... Where are you at? I am in Fairmont, WV and make many trips into Front Royal, VA. Aaron

That would be great, Thanks! I am half between Fredericksburg and Warrenton. If you let me know the next time you go to Front Royal I could try to meet you there, or I would pay for shipping expenses whichever is easier for you. I only need 1 sleeve and 1 piston would be great as well. They don"t need to be the best ones, just good enough to get measurements off of. That way you can keep the best around as a backup in case you need something in the future. Emails open.
