I own a late 60s model MF-135 (12v). Generator has gone bad and would like to replace it. Does anyone have a suggestion where to get this part?

OK guys sorry for suggesting it.
If the generator only requires a clean up and a new set of brushes then go for it. Due to age and wear most require new bushings as these generators did not use bearings.

My suggestion of a single wire alternator came from my auto elec when he saw my decrepit generator and this swap is fairly common.

Unless you just want to CHANGE generators, why not have your old one rebuilt? Any GOOD auto electric shop should have not the least problem accomodating your needs. And that way you know yours will fit, there will be no need for further modifications, and you can stay O.E.M.

Best solution is to replace with a single wire alternator. Requires fabricating a bracket and on a diesel replacing the ignition switch and rewiring which after 30 years is usually a mess anyway. Search this forum for further details. I have made this mod to several tractors I own.

But with the Continental gas engine, the tachometer is driven from a gear box on the back of the generator and tossing that generator also tosses the tachometer.

The generator on my MF-135 is doing well, the previous owner put on a new voltage regulator but it needed adjustment to charge the battery properly but since I made that adjustment back about 1988, I've only replaced the battery a couple times so its treating the battery adequately.

My charging system om my early 65 135 is as good as anything I've ever owned. Other than changing a bearing in the generator, have had no problems in over 25 years! And it's a UK model with lucas components. The gauge always shows when it is charging or discharging. Right after start is charges more and only shows slight discharge at idle with the lights on. I'd just fix the generator. Dave

Me too. Once I tweaked that regulator its run fine, I get 5 or 6 years out of each new battery and let it set 3 or 4 months each winter. This year I mounted my sprayer and ran a 10 amp pump motor all morning and the generator kept up and didn't smoke either. And it shows a peak charging current right after starting up about 20 amps which tapers to nothing in a while. Its working perfectly.
