On my 1955 TO 35 the firing order is stamped on the block. I think the plug wires may have been mixed up since I bought it?? Does the firing order start at the front cylider near the fan or the back cylinder. How do I tell where number 1 position is on the distributor cap there are no markings on the distributor or the cap. Also was this tractor a 12 volt negative ground from factory? thanks

The plug nearest the radiator is number one. The firing order is 1-3-4-2 counterclockwise in the distributor cap. Looking down on the distributor cap the top hole on your left side should be number one but that is not always so the distributor can be installed so any one of the holes can be number one. It can be checked to be sure where number one is in the distributor by removing number one plug stick your finger over the hole and bump the engine over with the starter till the compression comes out past your finger that is when the rotary bug has just past number one. As far as I know all 12 volts were negative ground from the factory.

Thanks for the info. My 202 is in the yard now and won't start! It's got gas and spark but won't hit. I was thinking the timing is foul but wher do you find that info these days. And Viola, there you were. I am pretty sure the 35 and 202 are about the same.

Thanks again,
Pete
