I have a MF35 Diesel with a leak around the fuel shut off shaft. There seems to be no side to side play in the shaft and minimal up and down play. I assume the "o" rings would be the problem, never been into a fuel injection pump before, what am I in for? Any help appreciated.

Hi,
No real complications as long as you are careful.
Shut off the fuel supply at the tap. Remove the locking wire connecting the two special nuts on the top. Dis-connect the throttle and stop rods. Ease the cover up a little until you can see the linkage inside. It is always best to make a sketch of the position of the linkage, ie which hole it is in etc. Check it and check it again before disconnecting so that there is no chance of refitting it incorrectly. With the cover removed, removal of the spindle is just the 5/16 AF nut on top and ease the spindle out. Check closely for corrosion of the aluminium around the o rings. Check also for any corrosion around the cover sealing face. Dry off the cover and apply a smear of silicone around the joint face on refitting. O rings should be available from any good seal or bearing supplier, or of course your local diesel shop. Ensure that the flats in the lever line up and only just nip the nut up. It is not necessary to wire the nuts....but it always looks better!!!!
