Hi

I'm wondering....

Gas AG3-152 engine 7.5 to 1 compression rate = 150 PSI (stated in service manual)

Diesel AD3-152 18.5 to 1 compression rate = ? PSI (Not stated in service manual)

Should we attempt to measure compression on a diesel engine with a gas engine compression tester ? ...will it explode and cause injuries ?

When starting a diesel engine how many PSI are required to ignite fuel in combustion chamber @ 70ºF (21ºC) ?

Thanks in advance

Bert

A petrol engine compression tester will be damaged if used on a diesel. Diesel will run on about 300 psi, up towards 500 would be ideal. Look for readings to be within 10 to 15% of each other, that is the most important thing to look for. Perkins said on thier training courses for oil cnsumption to be no more than 1% of fuel consumption before overhaul is requred.
