I'm all ears for this too. I upgraded my Z134 with an alternator and have no regrets. I'm still looking for an answer to find an alternative tach connection though.

I have a 1958 TO 35 which is similar to the early MF 35. It also has the Z134 engine. I still have the generator with no problems, but am missing the gear drive on the end of the generator that drives the tachometer. Any suggestions as to where I can get this tach gear drive?

Hi Tyler from Fred, I hear it is feasible to do some machine work on the back of an alternator and mount the little gear assy. for the tach. The shaft would have to be taken out of it and put in a lathe and drilled and threaded for the connection, understandable. But, to check if an alternator is putting out is to put a ferrous metal (say screwdriver) up against the metal cap on the back end of it while it is running and if you feel magnetic attraction, it is producing current. Question: What is this magnetism going to do to the tach gearbox that wasn't designed to run with this present? Maybe you might want to go out and start yours up and see how powerful this is before commenting on it. I figure this is your department, so the floor is yours. L8R----Fred
