3 cyl diesel starts quickly. However it
will not advance RPM above idle for some 5 minutes
or more. It puts out a lot of white smoke during
this time. After it warms up it is normal in
every way. Is there a quick fix or complete
injector pump rebuild? Just got the tractor
and it has been doing this for some time by the
owners statements.

I would take the injectors out and have them pop tested to check pressure before I rebuilt the pump. Every 245 Ive seen smoked some. if its real bad complete overhaul will help

Try some good fuel conditioner. The only time I couldn't advance the throttle was when I had summer diesel in winter. This was on a welder with a good heating system. Took over half an hour before I could rev it up. It was a Perkins 4-154 engine. I have seen other engines have a lot of white smoke when cold but don't know if they wouldn't rev up. dave

Although I don't have the problem with the rpm's, Mine has smoked until warm since I've had it. If I run it all day I smell like diesel smoke. I'd be interested in what you find.

Good luck, Charlie

Charlie...the MF245's did have a problem with smoking especially in colder areas. For some reason MF or Perkins changed the design of the piston. Many dealers switched them back to the earlier 135 style pistons to stop the problem. Gary
