I have a MF 135 that will make part of manifold and about 3" of exaust pipe glow. I rebuilt carburator that seemed to help, tractor was running really ruff before. Reintalled carb. tractor fired up and with a few adjustment it purred fine. I tested manifold with temp. sensor and it reads 325 degrees. I did notice when you turned the switch off tracor will backfire. Ran tractor for a few minutes then tractor suddenly dies, will not restart so I checked the points they are not firing but fire getting to them. I went ahead and pulled distributor while I was there and noticed a little slack when I tried to turn shaft, it would turn a bit before gear on bottom moved. Trying to get garden broke up, all help appreciated.

i know of two things that can cause your manifold to glow. running too lean a gas setting, and being out of time. since you rebuilt the carb and adjusted it to run the best, probably by ear, you might have set it too lean. your distributor slop could be causing your timing issue. check your manual for carb settings, (i don't have them for you) and get a timing light and check your timing. backfiring can also cause it to jump time.
