I have a 68 165 diesel with a bucket on it. I have a problem with being able to lift implements with the 3 point. 3 point will lift all the way up without weight on it.

Also when I put the clutch in to take it out of gear if there is any pull / push on the tractor at the time the transmission seems to lock in gear and it is hard to move to neutral. If I move the bucket it seems to sometimes make it easier as it seems to "unlock" the pressure against the gear box. My hydraulic unit has a lever between the seats that seems to operate the 3 point when it is in an upright position and the bucket when facing to the rear, I have not determined what the forward position is for. I also have to have the outside control for the 3 Point all the way up for anything to work and the inside one seems to control the 3 point arms.

My controls for the bucket are mounted on an arm attached to the fender on the right side of the tractor. One for up down and one for tilt, both seem to run off of the same hydraulic line from the rear of the tractor and the other line is not utilized.

What am I doing wrong?

You've got a couple issues here...

1) Hard shifting. Do you have the multi-power transmission ? They shift HARD as you describe with multi-power in HIGH. I always go to LOW if I'm shifting 'under load' like you describe.

2 You wrote .."I also have to have the outside control for the 3 Point all the way up for anything to work and the inside one seems to control the 3 point arms."

Yes... The outer lever is DRAFT control that's designed for keeping a (semi) constant load on 'soil contact' loads... like a plow. It will react to changing load on the top link and alter the 3 point position automatically to maintain traction... It's mainly used for plowing etc.

The inner lever is the 'position' control and is commonly used with the DRAFT lever all the way to the rear. It raises and lowers the 3 point to any position where it is supposed to hold.

You say your 3 point creeps up ? Check the tension on the POSITION control lever. The lever gets some hydraulic 'feedback' and will creep upwards (backwards)if it doesn't have enough friction on it.

There's a little washer/spring arrangement that is supposed to control the friction. I had to fool around with mine by adding more washers to get it to stay put.

The people who run this board sell manuals. (on the left hand side of the screen look under marketplace/manuals It's a great investment if you're going to be using/working on the tractor.

Best of luck
