Hey fellows

I was told to put the same oil that's in my transmission of my MF 231, in my power steering system. I think some one has put regular power steering fluid that you would find in your car in it. My steering shocks go in and out when I mow and my wheels wobble back and forth. I want to try what I've been told but I don't know how to drain and flush my system. Any body got any answers?

Same oil as trany, MF Perma-tran or equivalent. Sounds like you need to bleed the air out of your system. It requires you to add fluid while running and to allow expansion of fluid while turning the wheels stop to stop 7 or 8 times. I use a long funnel with a tip that just screws into the P.S. pump. Got an owners manual? Wheel wobble can also be caused by worn out tie rod ends.

I don't have owners manual. Would I unscrew nut on top of pump and pour in new fluid and unscrew the two lines coming back into system to drain?

If you crack those lines and drain you will get air in it which is okay but then you'll have to bleed. I would suggest trying to vacuum the oil out if possible. If not, crack the bigger, return line and drain, not both, then bleed, bleed, bleed. What usually messes up those pumps is using auto trany fluid, don't!
