Here's some tricks/specs on the 24 speeds. Massey recommends a 3% wheel slip. That is in the owners manuals that many don't even read. You can't calculate it on anything, watch the amount of slip once you travel over the soil. If you can see some "bite" then your probably there. Do all lugging in the intermediate selection. This is the direct drive and doesn't use the clutch packs. Keep the V-8's running more than 1600 RPM. They can spin engine bearings at low speeds, but you need certain hydraulic pressures in the rear end for everything to work as it should. Buy equipment matched for the tractor size and your soil. I figure 30 horsepower per plow bottom in the ground we have. I pull 6 - 16's on a 2805 and 4 - 16's on a 2745. Fuel consumption is spectacular! Easily between 5 and 7 gallons per hour running in 6th gear. The engine and tranny play with the plows. Hydraulic filters once a year, cheap considering the potential repair bills. Good clean fluids. Use Massey specification fluids. Don't just add something because its in the shop and readily available. Don't allow the tractor to free roll by holding down the clutch. A properly aligned clutch will try to stop once depressed. There is a mechanism that acts as a transmission brake. Rolling, builds back pressure. Thats really bad. We have had excellent results with the 24 speeds, if they are used properly, they will last.
