1135 PTO Issues

I'm having pto issues with an 1135. If I work the pto lever on the dash a few times the pto acts like it will go, then goes back to coasting. I do have my steering and brakes working just fine.

Air in the line? PTO clutches? Or maybe the drive shaft for the pto pack is slipping? It does make a little bit of a rattling noise out of the end of the tractor where the pto shaft comes out (sort of like bearings with flat spots). Pto will only run somewhat for a short time then go back to coasting

What is your suggestion?

I would replace the sealing rings on the out side hub of the clutch pack. They are teflon and not that expensive.I would also replace the discs, plates and the springs in the pack.

As far as the job goes, anything I should know or look for while taking this apart?

There really isn't anything special to look for.The most important thing is getting the area around the charge pump cover clean.I would remove the seat to make it easier to get at the pto.If you get into it and have questions, you can call me.My number is 815-631-7322.Good luck. Harlan.

It sounds to me like your clutch pack needs to be rebuilt. If your multipower is working good , the pressure to your pto clutch pack is probably ok.You might want to check your mechanical disconnect to make sure it is engaged.

I've been sort of dreading changing the pto clutch pack. As I understand it's not really that big of a deal. I guess it's just a matter of pulling the floor panel to get to the top of the tranny and pulling the pto housing off the rear of the tractor. The local dealer wanted $1200 to do this job. I ordered the tech manual, and going to try this one on my own. Can I get away with changing the plates and not all the seals?

At this point I would highly recomend a tech manual or I&T. If the fluid levels are ok and any of the mechanical linkages under the dash are working properly. Your gonna hafta start hooking up gauges and performing tests to see if the pto clutch is bad or the modulating valve(under the dash) is out of adjustment or bad.

The PTO runs off of one of the charge pumps, so it has little to do with weather the brakes and steering work. It could be be your IPTO modulating valve or the PTO clutch needs to be rebuilt. I would take it that the seat and multipower work as these are on the same circut as the pto. Oh yeah one last thing and the most important, does the tractor have enough transmission oil in it?

Multi Power does work. In high it uses the engine as an auto break. The seat apears to be 100% mechanical and doesn't run off any hydrolics. Does this narrow it down some? Where would I find this valve?

I forgot to add that the hydro oil level is right where it should be. Does it make a difference if the tractor is running or off when this is checked? It's right in the safe zone with the engine off.
