I just got my 165 mowing and from what I can tell the clutch is not working correctly for the pto it grinds when i try to engage it when running. Can someone tell me how to adjust the clutch. I have gotten any manuals yet I just picked the tractor up this weekend.

One other think I have 2 levels for the lift I am having a little trouble figuring out which one does what. It seem the lift wants to creep up by it self.

Thanks Brian

Hello Brian,
Adjusting the PTO clutch is easy although a little fiddly. When you press the pedal you should have two clearly defined stages. Forward motion should stop before you have to enter the second stage and the PTO should stop with the pedal about 1 to 2 inches off the footplate. Remove the inspection cover under the clutch housing and give it a good wipe around the hole with old rag. You will need 2 1/2" AF openended spanners. Make sure that they are in good condition. Look up at the clutch unit and turn the flywheel with a screwdriver or similar until you see an adjusting bolt come into view. There are 3 equally spaced around the assembly. A simple gauge to set the adjustment is the thickness of two hand hacksaw blades together but with the teeth ground off. Slacken the locknut just enough to be able to adjust the bolt using the gauge and nip up. Carry out this to the three. I suspect that the gap you have at the moment will be well in excess of this. The position of the second stage will have now moved on the pedal. Ensure that forward motion is stopping satisfactorily. Check for wear on the clutch pedal pivot bush, you can loose a lot of movement here. Check also that the pedal position is not uncomfortably high. This can be adjusted at the shaft clamp lever but make sure you dont loose PTO operation.
As to the hydraulic operation;
I'm assuming that you have PRESSURE CONTROL fitted. This allows you to increase the pressure in the system from about 500 psi to maximum. YOu will not normally need to use this. The DRAFT lever should be fully raised and inplements should be operated on POSITION CONTROL only. You select the position and the linkage should obey.
