Hi

Looking for a little advice I am thinking about putting a loader on my 165. I have an old kelly 600 that it would cost me around 1000 to get it on the 165. I have been quoted 3100 for a koyker 220 quick attach. I have found a skid steer local for 5000.

The 165 is in really good shape not bent and the paint is good. I am trying to take care of it.

What would you guys do. I am kind of not going towards the kelly since its not a quick attach and needs seals and paint.

The skid steer for 5000 is rough but runs good. I am going toward the adding the koyker to massey. I found it comes with the skid steer type bucket so I can use any skid steer attachments on it.

I currently only have the tractor hydraulics that come out under the seat of the tractor. I have any old oliver parts tractor that has a front pump so I am thinking about seeing if I can get it to work.

My kelly loader is set up like that with a front pump so it works great I just dont see being able to get any attachments for it.

I've got that same Kelly loader on a 3000 Ford. It get's the job done, but sure isn't like todays new quick-attach loaders in many regards. Does the 165 have a front or rear pump, or will you use the internal pump? That internal pump is a bit low output, so you won't get the full benifit of a better loader. (slow cycling)

The price on the Koyker isn't a bad one. Skid steers are all that and a bag of chips for SOME jobs. A tractor loader is more mobile than a skid steer. Take stock of what chores you'll be needing the loader for.

For the price of the koyker, that's not bad. You could probably get $1500 for the kelly loader if it's not in too bad of shape. I've been in a skid-steer for maybe 2 hours of my life. Not bad, but if you only need a loader once in a while the 165 is the way to go.

What kind of skid steer? $5000 seems low for anything that is ready to work but you never know. A skid steer with some practice will do circles around just about any other type of tractor loader except for heavy lifting or long travel distances. You do have to be really careful in a skid steer though as in the wrong hands they can be dangerous. How often do you plan on taking a loader off your tractor? If you have power steering you could leave it on. Dave
