ive asked alot of massey harris owners about the 1952 massey harris44 that i have about wheather or not did massey ever build a super 44 and the answer i get is no.the tractor was my aunts fathers tractor which they owned since it was a year old it has never been restored.my aunts brother says that the tractor has never been cosmetically changed in any way and has been shedded all its life. on the hood where it says 44 it says super in yellow and black letters it appears to be in the same design as the numbers and letters that say massey harrris. when or if i restore this tractor i am going to have the same decal made to replace it.the only thing i can think of is that maybe the dealer put these stickers on it to use as a sale's gimick but that was in 1952 so who knows? the only other thing is that this tractor has been overhauled once and according to my aunts brother who did the work the engine had domed pistons in it.

mn.Chuck is right - find the s/n either on tag or steel stamped into top of left frame rail or trans mount about where driver"s left foot goes. If on rail, it will be something like 44GIRF followed by up to 5 digits. No 44 Supers in my book, but 44 Specials started at 50001 and ran to 60719 (1953-55). fyi prior to 1952, each type - standard, row crop, gas, distillate, diesel, lp had its own series of numbers so highest was a 4 digit number, but 1952 they were combined and restarted at 40001 and ran to 47060 in mid 1953. there was also a 44-6 (6 cyl) but that should be an easy elimination if you have the more common 4 cyl. Also as stated the 44 will have H260 while 44 Special will be H277. best. ed

Brian, There was a 44 Special, and then there was
a 101 Super with a 6 cyl Chrysler. On the LH rear
part of the frame there should be a oval plate w/
model and s/n or if missing the s/n stamped in by
the gearshift lever. If a 44 series it would have
stamped on the Continental engine H260 or H277 or
"HD" if a diesel. Chuck

Are you sure it doesn't say Special and not Super? Massey Harris did build a 44 Special for a few years. 53 to 55, I believe

after reviewing the serial number i need to correct the year as a 1950 not a 1952 serial 44tgr-18991. like i said before ive done some research on this tractor and could never find anything about a super44 thats why i think that possible the dealer may have put super decals on the tractor as sales gimick. the decals are still very readable thats why i know it doesnt say special or anything else. the only other question would be is did massey build any other piece of equipment around 1950 that would have said super on it.the tractor was a year old when my aunts father purchased it but since"s he is no longer alive it is difficult to know where he originally purchased it from.he lived in catteraugus county,ny 2miles north of ellicottville,ny

Not a good answer, but Oliver made a Super 44 that Looked Just like a Pony or Pacer about that time or a little later.Look the tractor over closely and there should be a plate on it somewhere.Hope this helps a little.
