I HAVE A 1972-135 DIESEL WITH AN INACCURATE FUEL GUAGE. IT READS 1/4 WHEN EMPTY AND 7/8 WHEN FULL. THE SENDING UNIT READS 56 OHMS TO GROUND WITH 3/4 TANK OF FUEL AND THE GUAGE READS 128 OHMS TO GROUND. I'M WONDERING WHICH WAY TO ATTACK POBLEM. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE HELPFUL.

Has it always read this way?

If so, it could be that the sender unit is incorrect - has a longer arm than it should.

Units in the larger (deeper)tanks have longer arms, and when installed in the shallower tanks the float doesn't move as far, resulting in the compressed scale reading.

Take the sending unit off the tank and clean each seal and connection then remove and clean or replace all the wiring to the guage and then to it's battery connection. You may be seeing a poor ground. My 135 had a leaking float that I had to solder up but that doesn't sound like your trouble. The cheap fix is to clean and replace all the wiring. If that fixes things, you don't have to buy anything. If not, it doesn't hurt anyway.
