What would be a good price for a Massey 2805. Has been converted to a straight 8 speed. Full set of suit case weights and wheel weights with cast duals. 40% 20.8x38's and good front tires. Engine is free and no antifreeze in the oil. It has no batteries so I havent been able to start it. Supposedly it was running fine when it was parked. All the glass is in the cab. No visible leaks. 1600 hours give or take a few. I am trying to decide if I want to buy it and I just dont know what they are worth. Any feedback would be appreciated.

when i worked for a massey dealer back when the 2805 came out we changed a lot of them back to 8 speeds from 24. this was a offer from massey to kind of fix the bad rap the 24 had but some would not change and some ran for a lot of hr. with the 24 my dad had one with over 10,000hr and not down day one but some did not get 100. the 8 speed was real good and the gear to speed was good

If you do a "search" on this page for MF 2805 you"ll find more than you probably care to know. I had one for about 7 years and didn"t care for the transmission issues. Really like"d the roar though. Brad, I think you are right, they did offer the 8 speed option for some year models.

I just bought one of these with a 24 speed box. They seem to sell from about 6500 on Ebay to about 12000 from a dealer. I have read quite a lot about problems people have had with the 24 speed set up so hope mine stays together. Thought I might use it in the farm class for pulling here in Scotland but am a little concerned about reliability. Anybody got thoughts on this?

Are you sure it is "converted"? A good friend and massey collector has a 2805 with a 8 speed, and as best as I understand it was ordered this way. Not saying this is gospel, just sayin it is how I understand the story (I have misunderstood stories befor too tho)

We had one delivered from a dealer for 10,500 a few years ago. Our literally looks and runs like new with 2300 hours. Once someone tears into the rear end and changes things around, things tend to break easier. I would be leary of one that was converted. This typically means that someone didn"t machine the housing and fix the problem the right way. I have seen these run very well once they are done right. The "right" way doesn"t mean it needs to be an 8 speed. Only that the O-ring cutting was not solved. If you get it from a private party for less than 8 thousand, your in the ball park. There is a photo of ours in the photo section. Search for 2805.
