I have a 165 row crop diesel that I can not control the 3 point hitch. when the tarctor is running the arms raise and can not be lowered. When the tractor is shut off the arms will lower slowly.

Internally everything looks Ok. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Al

Hello,
I think that the oscillator under the Ferguson pump may be broken or your control valve is sticking. Lower the oil level to the bottom bolt on the round side cover and remove it.
Operate your control lever. You should see the vertical lever move and the pump lever should follow it. If the vertical lever remains stationary even with the engine running it would suggest the oscillator. This is a link driven by the cam on the pump shaft which prevents the control valve from sticking by its back and forth movement. Early tractors had an aluminium link which was prone to breaking. It was replaced by a steel one. You do not mention whether you have Multi-Power or IPTO. If you do, to remove the pump it will be necessary to split the tractor between the gearbox and back end as well as removing the cover.
Please let us know what you find.
