elec goes from pos bat to dist ( hotwire ) .
in dist set points at 14 thou when you open points they should spark weakly or its not insulated.

when points open short current goes through coil to earth ,when points close collapsing field in coil gives high voltage surge to centre of dist

when set turn over motor with centre wire from coil about 1/4 inch away from good ground .It should spark strongly every time points open & close
