Big Dean- are you out there? I have a MF175 diesel that I just bought a couple of months ago. Nice machine! Runs real well! It's been cold here in western NY the last couple of weeks,30's-40's and the 175 doesn't start as quickly as I think it should. Is there an extra fuel button somewhere on this unit like there is on my Fordson Power Major injection pump that gives an extra shot of fuel for quick starts when the temp drops? I have a block heater(for the really cold weather ahead)and a service manual on order, but they haven't arrived yet.

some 175D have a battery powerd heater plug its on front panel below light switch some came with a port on lower panel to add starting flued .mine dosnt have this. but I found if I crank it for 5 to 10 sec. and wait youll see smoke comeing out of the drain hole at botem of muffler pipe then it will usely start right up I guess the fule hits the glow plug and smolders and heats up the chamber warm enuff to start.

I have 2 175's. They are both easy to start if the battery is fully charged, the block heater is working (it makes a boiling sound loud enough to hear) and given a very small shot of starting fluid on top of the breather. In extreme cold, I use a dipstick heater overnight. If all else fails, then you may have a faulty starter motor. David.

Just the tiniest whiff of ether near the air cleaner, with the starter already turning.

My uncle bought a 175 new and it has always been a little cold blooded. Has close to 10,000 hrs. on it and it still runs good. Never touched the engine.
