I have a MF165 Perkins AD4 203 diesel and Mulpower (assume British built). Previously advise was lifting capacity of 3PL, should be 1500-1600Kg,it will only lift 450Kg. The 3PL raises/lowers fine and draft control appears to work with posthole borer. Fluid was changed in rear end and level is OK Can anyone suggest some idea's as to what maybe the problem. Unsure if I should try to fix myself or pay someone. In the later case, it would be good to have an idea of the magnitude of the work and hence, likely cost.
Second issue is knocking noise(loud), in rear end, after dragging ground levelling sled over unulating ground for more than an hour. Noise stopped if I slowed down(almost stopped). Noise didn't reappear during other tasks, but did when I repeated sled work.

Bob...I have a 165, & am not an expert, but generally do my own repairs. Your lift problem sounds like an internal leak or weak safety valve. If it's the safety valve you should hear it when you put too much load on it. To see an internal leak you'll have to take one of the side covers off & look in w/ a flashlight(while the tractor is trying to lift). Use caution.

The knocking in the rear end I'm not clear when it happens, only while pulling?

Jeff

Thanks Jeff, I will check for leaks as I don't experience any unusual noise on big lift, I had some problems boring, couldnt get enough downward pressure so tried a load of house brick which I knew were 450Kg, the 3PL lifted maybe 100mm of ground and just sat there.
Knocking only occurred twice both were warm days >28 DEG C(I have not dragged sled since). Noise and frequent enough to shed it straight away. Since this I have used it for post hole boring (numerous 300mm x 1m hole), lifting timber fence post into holes) front blade work, general carryall use around property, dragging felled trees(big one's up to 30m x 600mm)etc.
Regularly (not always)when I shed the tractor, lower blade and carryall and shut down I do get a transmission/rear end oil relieving type noise, which can run for 30 seconds.
Jeff, I am not sure if we exchanged emails previously, my MF165 has factory wheel weights, even following advise from user of notice board I could not embed a photo (maybe as I am in Oz, so have added it to Photo Gallery if you are interested.
