Center the wheel by disconnecting the linkage (to prevent bind) and turning the wheel all the way to the right then counting the turns all the way to the left. Divide by two and return the wheel to this position. Then secure the wheel in this location. Assemble all components with the wheel secured. Now you know the wheel is centered.

BTW, did you remove the side off the steering gear? You might find some ugliness in there. I found 47 year old oil or what was oil. It was some sight. The backlash adjustment is on the cover. Perhaps you shouold do this after everthing else is set and working.

HTH Aaron

On the bottom of pedestal shaft there is a factory marking line I guess having that straight forward would be dead center of the steering wheel? And yes it is a master spline but it doesn"t have a keyway,so standing in front of the tractor with ped. shaft centered the steering arm should be 45 degrees off the backside to the left? Thanks for the help guys!

Eric is correct. The pitman arm can only fit on one way. As far as setting up the tie rod adjustment, center the steering wheel, adjust left side tie rod to the indention that matches the hole used in the axle. For example, if you have your front spread with two holes showing, your tie rod should match. Then adjust the right hand side so that when the tie rod indention bolt is tightened, the tires are slightly toed in.

I made a mistake in not completely tightening the left hand tie rod into the right hand inner and the assembly impacted the axle cradle. I could turn left fine, but could not turn to the right. I will try to post a pic later in the week. Good Luck, Aaron

I believe the steering pedestal shaft and the steering arm should have a "master spline". In other words, they should only go together one way. Good luck.
