Draft control spring

I took out my draft control spring to replace the draft plunger inside it. Is the big spring the main control spring? I read on here that if it is weak it will cause the 3 pt. to not to lift heavier implements. Also what length should the spring be? The dealer said the US and UK models are the same. I'm wondering if I should just put a new spring in since it's apart anyway. The plunger is $20, the yoke is $45 and a new spring is $65 so it's not a real hefty price if it helps but I still don't want to buy something I don't need. Thanks for the help. Dave

Hello Dave,
We have never replaced a spring. It is more important that the adjustments are carried out correctly. When you reassemble (don't forget the rubber boot) apply plenty of grease to the plunger. It should be adjusted until the spring is stiff to turn by hand, no more, no less. Insert the pin and rubber plug if you have one fitted.
Refit the assemble with plenty of grease on the nut. Place the DRAFT lever in the fully lowered position. Screw in the nut constantly checking the amount of end-float in the assembly. When the end-float disappears that is your correct adjustment. Make sure you support the end when checking. Tighten the lock screw in the casing and refit the boot.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I got a copy of the adjustment procedure from the dealer. I didn't realize I needed the pin to stop the yoke from turning and got a roll pin from the dealer instead of the solid pin. If I can't get the old pin out, I think the roll pin should be fine? I also have to push out the bushings on the yoke that join it to the other yoke type bracket. The service department at the dealer was busy and other than letting me look in the service manual didn't offer too much help. The lady there made me the copies and one guy who supposedly knew how it all worked was actually kind of rude. What ever happened to customer service? Anyway I think I have it figured out and they have a press at work so I can take the bushings out. Dave

What indeed happened to customer service? It's lack of help that sends customers to the competitors.
The bushings are serrated and must be pushed in square. Check for wear in the upper yoke.
Not sure if you have already stripped the assembly. If you have any difficulty please come back and I'll give you some advice on how to strip it.
