The engine is of course the little Continental flathead 4-cylinder which was used in many Masseys, and a ton of other agricultural and industrial applications. There were 3 sizes, 124, 140, and 162 cubic inches, and were all the same except for the bore of the cylinder (and pistons, rings, etc.) They were used on Lincoln welders for years and years. Engine parts shouldn't be a problem. For all the other stuff, searching for a parts tractor is probably the way to go (if you can find someone who is willing to part out and not haul the whole thing home - that's bad for marriages). If you go into a MF dealer and ask, they'll look at you like you're from another planet. Brakes, clutches, etc. can all be relined and remanufactured.

I have an F140A Continental engine. I know where there is a Ferguson with a bad engine. I thought the Fergusons all had engines with a "Z" prefix. So, I have not bought the Ferguson. If my F140A would fit the Ferguson, I would buy it. I thought there might be a problem bolting the engine to the bellhousing ; or, some other mounting problem .

Somehow, I'd be surprised if a Continental Flathead would bolt onto a Ferguson. Did the Fergusons use Continental? The Ferguson is an overhead valve is it not? Although that wouldn't mean too much. Try a posting in the Tractor Talk section, or maybe in the Ferguson section, those guys have most of the answers. Meanwhile, it might be worth mentioning that apparently parts for the Fergusons are very pricey, at least up here in Canada. A buddy of mine told me that a Ferguson starter was 5 times the cost of the starter for a Ford 9N. That might be worthwhile checking out before you bought the Ferguson, even if the engine swap would work. See ya.
