Head Gasket?

I just purchased an old MF 1020 very cheap with the intention of rebuilding if needed. Everything seems to work pretty good but when the engine is running there is very light blue smoke coming from a tube that is connected to the valve cover(not sure what it"s called). I also notice a lot of the smoke coming from the exhaust when I hit the gas hard. The engine seems to run fine but after about 5 minutes the oil light comes on and I cut it off. I have replaced the oil and filter and flushed the radiator, and that did not help any. I am thinking it is burning antifreeze because of a blown head gasket. Would this cause the tractor to overheat? If it is the gasket are there any additives out there that actually work? If anyone has good ideas i would love to hear them. Thanks a lot

ohh yeah...what about parts for a 1020? Having a little trouble there too.

Blue smoke is burning oil, not antifreeze
Black smoke is to rich on fuel
White smoke or steam...is Antifreeze. I've actually seen the steam sort of a greenish color.

As far as additives go. I have had real good luck with aluminim dust for radiators and head gaskets. Walmart sells this stuff, it comes in a tube and looks like powder. The old time truck drivers used to use a can of black peper to stop radiator and head gasket problems. I have tried this on an old firewood truck and amazingly the truck ran another three years without having a problem.

I really don't think your problem is a head gasket. I think you will find that you need a new set of rings and valve seals.

The tube you are talking about is a vent tube. The smoke coming out of it is blow by from worn piston rings. It is actually exaust that is escaping around the ring and into the crankcase. You can throw a heavier oil in there to reduce it for now, like a 20w-50, but it will not solve your problem.

sometimes you get a crack between cylinders which allows the antifreeze to leak out. check your oil, if it is milky, water is getting into the motor. could be problems. maybe lucky just a blown head gasket.
