I have seen the term Multi-Power mentioned here a lot, but don't really know what it is. What is it? How does it differ from a "normal" gear drive, how long was it offered (and is it still) and how reliable it it?

Thanks,
Bill

Its a two speed 'splitter' that's built into the MF tranny. Together with a 'manual' hi-low it gives you 12 speeds.

A combination of hydraulic and spring/'ramp' action moves the gearset between high and low engagement.

Some interesting characteristics...

In high you get 'hold back' on the hills.. in 'low' it 'freewheels' downhill.

In high it's hard to shift the 'regular' part of the tranny when the tractor isn't moving... in low it's an easy shifter.

You can pretty much shift between multi-power settings any time you want.. on the fly.
