I am planning to put new sleeves, pistons, rings and wrist pins in and have the head reworked (new guides, valves, seats). I will be doing this in the open (no shop). I have everything off and am ready to order parts. Is this a job an average mechanically inclined person can do? What is the proper puller to remove and install sleeves? I will have a machine shop do the head.

The air cleaner had no oil in it when I purchased the unit and cylinders are scored vertically. Bottom end appears in good shape. Unit smoked alot and ran poorly.

I will replace t-stat and hoses as a precaution.

Anything else I may need or am forgetting??

Thanks in advance.

actually its no big deal if u have a mechanical background- lots of lil tricks like freezing the sleeves before u put them back in---i use blocks of wood to pound the sleeves out and in---don"t forget to put some sealant as the directions tells u- also on the market are videos showing the entire process of rebuilding a MF engine---great place to buy matching engine rebuilds are located on this site---have fun good luck---john

John,

Thanks for the encouragement. I will order parts today and get the old sleeves out this weekend.
