Hi: I have a massey ferguson 245 with 2600 hours. I just got this tractor it was running with out nocking noise befor I took it apart to paint and fixed hole in exhaust pipe replaced air filter. The oil preesure by guage runs at the same place as my MF 230. I do not thank it is the crank, rods, or pistons. The nosie does not get worse with engine temp or rpms, high or low. Could the nosie be the injector pump? My engine does smoke a little at startup, but stop after 5 or 10 seconds.

If you used longer mounting bolts (for mounting the water pump), left the original washers off or installed studs and nuts in place of the bolts, one or more of them could be touching a gear under the front cover as it rotates. I've seen this problem (and worse) on the ones where the pump mounting holes are drilled and tapped all the way through the front cover and the depth the fasteners go in is critical.

The new water pump had bolts in it. So I did not check the lieght of the bolts. This may be the problem, well check and let you know thanks.

Can"t tell without hearing it, would check the crankshaft pulley, fan shaft/water pump pulley, power steering pump, and alternator support/pulley. Have used a length of rubber hose held to the good ear to isolate the knocking. Also, make sure the lift isn"t in the "Constant pumping" setting. I"ve got one with over 4200 hours with no knock, never been opened.

I did replease the water pump when tractor was apart. I had a chevy truck with 250 six cylinder engine and pulled the motor because of a bad water pump knocking on the cylinder wall. I hope this is the problem this time.

Checked water pump fan and bolts. The knocking is still there. What is the oil pressure suppose to be cold and hot on the 152 perkin engine. PSI.? Will check with gauge that has numbers.
