I was raking a field and managed to find a the grand canyon of woodchuck holes. After scraping myself off the ceiling of my cab, I noticed my rake was nolonger raking. Unfortunately all that bouncing around split the gearbox on my rake right in half. Being that the gearbox is cast iron, there's pieces missing and the gears are damaged. After going through a kicking cussing fit and threatening to nuke every woodchuck I saw, I headed home and found this old rake setting in a field on the way. I stopped and asked the guy if it worked and if he would be interested in selling it. He said that it did work, but has been setting there for about 5 years and will need a little work, but would sell it. Other than some rust, and in bad need of new tires, the old rake was in fairly good shape and it turned right over as soon as I engaged it. The guy said he would take $50 for it. Sold!!..better than hand raking. I hauled this rake to my barn and the rubber started flying. The old 36 inch tires were flinging rubber at my truck and every mailbox we went by. My question is, where can I find 36" narrow tires? It's an old John Deere rake with spoked wheels. I did find some iron wheels in this area that would fit, but I travel the road from field to field. Most of the fields would be fine (only a 500 feet down the road) other than a couple that are aprox. 3 or 4 miles down the road. This rake is going to have to do until next year. This year with tons of breakdowns and barn repairs, the money just isn't there for a new one.
