MULTIPOWER POPS AND SHIFTS TO LOW

I am having problems with the multipower on a 175 diesel. It appears to work fine until the tractor gets under a hard pull with the multipower in high. Under a hard pull it will make a poping-grinding sound and shift to low without moving the lever. As soon as the pull is eased up it will go back to high like nothing is wrong. I have checked pressures and they seem to be ok. Any Ideas?

I am working on a 180 with multipower problems now. Except i hope to solve mine. I am installing a non multipower transmission anyway to your question. You clutches are likely slipping. Try the adjustment. You should be trying to make the dash shifter push the rod down into the bellhousing farther. That might fix it. If not your clutches are likely bad. Its a fun job getting to them you have to break the tractor at both ends of the tranny then take it apart. Anyway see how it goes and post back here there is a lot of knowledge here and I am sure someone like big dean can talk you through it step by step.

Bruce, Try the layman method to re-adjust the
Multi-power. With the dash lever way up,look down
on top of trans. hsg.where the linkage ends up.
There is a clamp that clamps around a small rod
that goes down into the tranny.Loosen that clamp
and make sure the rod can move-then lightly tap
it down as far as it goes and re-tighten the
clamp. Almost always works. Good Luck, Chuck

I would also like to state that the popping and grinding sound is coming from inside the transmission. It is has something to do with the multipower. It will only do this when in high multipower.
