How difficult is it to rebuld a multipower unit? This is on a 175 diesel. Any special tools required? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey I am not a expert on this but I think I can cover the basics. First get an I&T manual it shows you how to test the system. Now Lets say worst case scenario. Split tractor, Remove transmission. Now the multipower clutch is on the top shaft. Clutches are probably bad. Replace clutches. Inspect shafts and front housing thats also the control valve. There are 4 steel rings in there that usually eat up the housings and shafts. Replace shafts and front housing. Then look at your aux pump. Hopefully its good. Now this info comes from a man that has worked on masseys since the mid 60's. I may have missed something but I have most of it covered. My best estimate from massey is about 1500$ worth of parts. I opted on my 180 to get a non multipower transmission. Anyway its really not a difficult job. But its quite time consuming.

How do you know if the aux. pump is bad? I have checked pressure at the multipower test port and it is low when the tractor is idling (OK when engine is above 1400 rpm). The pressure at the remotes is ok even when idling. The aux. pump has two outlets. Is this actually two pumps in one housing? How can i tell if my pump is going bad or if the multipower clutch pack has a leak? I have a factory service manual and an IT manual but it is not clear to me how to diagnose a pump or clutch pack problem. I don't want to buy a new aux. pump if this one is ok. Thanks for any help on this matter.

I would think that your aux pump is good if it has significant pressure. Your clutches just might be shot. Also there is a rubber line inside that could be leaking. Also one of the steel sealing rings could be broken letting the pressure go. Best thing is to tear it down and check everything. Also that aux pump is 2 pumps in 1 housing.
