A MF 230 with a loader & perkins diesel motor is up for sale locally for $7,500. Is this a good price? Seller claims very good shape with 90% rubber.

The "blue book" on this (from Prism publishers) says this is worth about $4,000 plus loader, but that seems low. In general, this blue book seems low- is there a better source for pricing (other than bothering folks on this board)?

Prices tend to be regional. That Perkins is a great engine. Not heard much good about the 230, mainly steering probs, will be worse with a loader. To me it seems high. If you try it out and like it then it"s up to you. I think you would like a 245 better, "bout the same as his asking price.

As far as I'm concerned the blue book is only for dealers to cheat people out of money on a trade in. If it's low hours in good shape, it's a reasonable price. I've seen 135's go for more with a loader. What kind of loader? Price out a new loader. They're not cheap. A 230 is basically a lower horsepower version of a 245 with the same engine. It might not have hydrostatic power steering like the 245 but is a good tractor. Almost a newer 135. Dave
