I have 2 questions concerning this board's
article archive, Step-by-Step 12 Volt Conversion
topic. The diagram shows 1 and 2 poles on the S10 alternator. I have a delco-remy DR5MF I would like to use instead. It has 4 terminals GRND,BAT,F,R. So I assume F,R is the equivalent of 1 and 2 in the diagram.
Is 1 = "F" and 2 = "R" or is that the opposite.? Also I am running straight off the battery, as
a consequence I have to recharge the battery after
every use. The alternator is belted but no
connections are made yet. My 12 Volt battery works fine so do I still need a balast resistor as the coil seems to work fine on 12 Volt without one?.
It could be a 12 Volt coil but can't say for sure. Thanks folks.

I am not an a-c delco wizzard but i think the alt you are using is the older series with an external regulator. I would spend the extra money and get the 10si unit with a self exciting regulator, then you only need to hook up the battery wire. as far as the coil, if you have a 6 volt it will work on 12v but will burn up the points in a short time. I again would spend the money on a 12v coil and skip the ballest resistor, just one more thing to cause problems. hope this helps and good luck.
