do 255's remotes only work with the lift in the constant pumping position? If so, why does it knock when constant pumping? does it have a relief valve? thanks!

All I can tell you is what mine does. "75 255 with factory remotes. The remotes work regardless and independent of where the "position"(square head) lever OR the "draft"(round head) lever is. Many Massey lifts make a knocking sound when under a big load or in constant pumping, too loud is probably a problem. Have you changed the remote hydraulic filter or the lift filter/screen? On my tractor the position lever works from the rear towards the top, the draft works from the front to slightly past the top. I would check to see if the "constant pumping" block has been moved/removed. If the 3 point lift pump has been plumbed for remotes(not factory) then you "may" need to have it in constant pumping for use of the remotes. There "should" be a relief valve but I haven"t had to find mine....yet.
