I have a massey 1135. It has a 1000 pto and I need it run 540 for my baler. Is there a converter for the different splines to do this?

Our neighbor had a converter to do just that. He would idle his 1130 with the 1000 rpm shaft hooked up to his 540 rpm baler. No use waking up and feeding all those horses just to make little bales on the flat.

Just don't lay into the throttle by mistake.

The 1135 was manufacured with the ability to run at 1000 or 540 on the pto. All you need to do is go to your Massey dealer, or to a jobber dealer, such as A&I, and order the 1000 pto shaft stub. You remove the three or four bolts that currently hold the 540 stub on, and then bolt the 1000 stub in its place. The 1000 stub will fit into a different gear when you bolt it on, and hence turn at the 1000 speed.

What kind of baler? I'm guessing round baler if you need to use the 1105 to run it (no farm can go without a single tractor that can run 540, that's capable of running a small square baler)

You may be able to reverse the gearbox on the baler, change the u-joint on the shaft to the 21 spline conector, and run it at 1000 rpm.

Otherwise, yes. any farm supply store should have the adapter to go from 1 3/8" 21 spline to 1 3/8" 6 spline shafts. It will add probably 4-6" on the shaft though, and you will need to be very careful not to over-speed the baler. Otherwise Massey may have the proper shaft to put in, in some sort of kit. ($$$$)

I forgot one important thing. Generally speaking
a hay baler does not operate at 540 RPM. Usually
by plunger strokes per minute. Be sure to read
your manual. A full 540 would be pretty fast for
a hay baler. Chuck

The proper way to do this is to get a 540 stub and
plate. An accessory thru MF parts. You have two
shafts coming thru the back, One turning inside
of the other. Remove the 3?capscrews holding on
the 1000 stub and install the 540. Then your
RPM's will be correct. Chuck

There are adapters readily available at farm equip. dealers etc. and they are not costly. The problem you will have is you still have to run your baler at a max. rpm of 540. To do this your tractor may be running barely above idle speed. You also have to watch the overall length of your pto shaft as tha adapter will shorten it and may cause the slide to jam on corners.
