We actually own a 285, and can say it's a VERY good model. The only thing that would concern me is why there are fuel stains down the side. OFCuld be leaking injectors, return lines, or anything else. The battery cable is run the exact same way on our 285. Maybe it's supposed to go under the raiator, but it isn't on ours and just from personal knowledge of the tractor, I can't say it's a good or easy place to run a cable. I'm guessing the missing bolt 135 fan is refering to is the one on the upper left of the front panel. Again, based off of experience with that model, I'm surprised the bottom right one on that panel is in. The holes are very easy to strip out on those panels, and more than one has a regular nut behind it, if we can reach it with our fat fingers. The decals and lights are all still there. That says alot to me. Ours still has working headlights, but the decals are peeling off, and some are entirely missing. It also has the sheild over the transmission between your legs. Ours never had it, and we bought it right from the dealer as a demo model in 82. Ours is a 78. In our area, a clean one like that, even with a bad water pump, would bring $9500 easy. If the tach doesn't work, you can either replace it or get it fixed. It won't be accurate to the actual hours, but it wouldn't be a big concern to me. In my honest opinion, without being there to pick it apart but based off the pictures, what you said about the water pump and tach, and a fuss about where the battery cable is routed, $8500 for that tractor is a very good deal. If we brought ours off the farm right now, with faded and scratched paint, missing and flaking decals, and grease and oil all over it, we could sell it for $9000. Throw in the engine overhaul it had this spring, with papers, $10,500. Paint it, and we have a $12,000 tractor. Donovan from Wisconsin
