I have read that the MF 235 had a terrible failure of the steering. Was the steering offered for this tractor power or manual and which did it the problem plague? What was the fix? Was/is there a retro fit kit for these units? What years were these tractors made and did all of them have the steering problem. Other than the steering, were they a good tractor? How do they compare to the 135?

Thanks,
Bill

Here is what I know about the 235 steering. The manual steering never gave a bit of trouble that I know of. The power steering was a different story. The company that manufactured them went bankrupt shortly after the 235 hit the dealerships. Massey found someone else to build the parts for them. I think that everyone we sold at the dealership where I worked had problems. We had some that set in our shop for about 3 months while we were waiting for Massey to come up with the parts.. Massey came out with some modified parts that pretty much fixed the problems. Somewhere in the mid 80s we could no longer get these part for that steering gear. & as far as I know there still not available from Massey. The only adjustment I can remember on them is the side plates have slotted bolt holes turning it one way will move the sector gears closer together & closer the ball gear on the steering shaft

I am also interested in how to correct the play in the steering on a massey ferguson 235.
Mine has a lot of play and makes it hard to keep straight in the road.
