Well, last weekend I checked the lube in my brothers MF50. It looked milky. No, thats not quite it... It looked like cream interior paint. There was little to no brown to it at all. It was near white. It has been parked for the summer and fall in the garage and I was surprised to find the fluid in such bad shape. I pulled the fill plug and noted that the gears were totally coated with this stuff. I went to the local tractor parts store and bought 10 gallons of Permatran, 4 wheel studs, then to the gas station and bought 5 gallons of off-road diesel. While the rear wheel was off I drained the belly and poured in the diesel. I started the tractor and ran it in all gears with the rear wheel removed so that the stuff would get good and rinsed down. I also ran the lift to get all that cleaned out. I noticed that after a while there was slightly more gear noise than normal. I figured that this was a good time to shut it off and drain it out. The pinkish whitish diesel came pouring out and an inspection revealed everything was quite clean. I also put the positioner in down to purge the cylinder as much as I could. I then poured 8 gallons of the new stuff in and although it did not show on the stick yet, I knew it was in there... I fired it up, stroked the positioner, ran it through the gears. I replaced the wheel studs while the draining was in progress so with everything else done, I put the rear tire back on and let it down. Everything turned out well. The diesel did a spectacular job of cleaning the innards. I poured the old oil and the used diesel in a clear container and noted that the diesel and white gear lube did not mix.

Hopefully that gets everything in order for the last rough cut of the season...

That is a good tip.

I have never bought into the condensation idea because it seem like too much water. Also my MF-65 has sat out side in all weather for 3 years since I changed my oil... No water.

I updated to new rubber boots on the shifters and I also put a pail over the shift levers before covering with a tarp.

good to hear it worked out well. It seems water may have got to system. Are there cracks or gaps in the shifter rubber boots that perhaps let rain in? I see plenty of tractors that people store outside with open gaps/cracks in shifter boots that allow water and dirt to seep in. Cheap & easy to replace the boots though.

No cracks, but it did set out ealier in the year... My 65"s hyd pump froze and broke prior to me owning it. Expensive mistake to make. Heck, I am still trying to figure out what is stripping the studs on this thing. I got 4 in one side and two needed on the other. Well there is always next week.
