The injection pump I took off my tractor had a bad seal and I believe the base bushing was wore out.

I was planning on buying a rebuild kit for this pump and taking a shot at doing the work myself rather than spending $1800 for someone else to do it. All I'm really concerned with is replacing the leaky seal and bushing.

Is there a break down of this pump somewhere online? The IT manual shoes absolutely nothing when it comes to this pump. I've rebuilt inline pumps before, never rebuilt one of these...am I getting in over my head?

Have you tried getting a quote from a local diesel injection pump rebuilder? That is what many dealers do and it removes the middle man.

I didn't know it cost $1800 to have a 1135 pump rebuilt.

That's what the local dealer quoted me. I personally thought it was a little steep.

This is only a spare pump anyways. All I really care about is replacing the seal and bushing to stop it from leaking.

Hi,
I think you may be. Rebuilding it is one thing, having it set up to specifications is something else. It can only be done on the proper test equipment.

I had a feeling this job would involve a little more than what I am equiped to do in my shop.

What kind of job am I looking at just changing the shaft seal? I know the bushing is rather easy being that it's located in the bottom plate.

The last two 354 pumps that I had rebuilt cost $600 (550 combine) and $900. The $900 pump (from 2705) needed to have a bunch of extra parts replaced.

That is just rebuild, I do the remove / install myself. I can take a pump out and reinstall in about 8 hours labour (being very careful about cleanliness) so the $1,800 sounds a little steep to me.

Seals you can do yourself. I've never heard of anyone doing a complete rebuild without a flow / test stand.

JP.

The pump worked fine other than the leaky seal.

$600 sounds much better than $1800. Unfortunately this area is very remote and there isn't any local business that rebuilds these things. It looks like I'm going to have to find a place to send it out.

If I just replace the seals and base bushing, where would I find the parts? What kind of job is it to replace that bottom seal?

If you have an IT manual it should explain this process there are two seals in the bottom. remove bolt then gear will come and remove the two seals your local shop should be able to handle this its fairly simple should only take 1/2 hour labor plus seals if you have already pulled pump off for them

I called the local dealer and they told me that they couldn't get the seals and I would have to send the pump away. So, I called a dealer that is about 60 miles away and they have the seals and bushings in stock. It's going to run me $13 for the seal and $13 for the bushing. $26 to get my pump back isn't bad at all.

The IT manual shows absolutely nothing about this pump. The second dealer I called told me it was a fairly easy job putting them in. To be completely honest I've found that the IT manual lacks a lot of important information
