Hi all:

Looking for info on a tractor I just bought. It's a 30 Standard, S/N 2635, which should be a 1948 with 162 Continental engine. No hydraulics.

On top of the diff is a large casting with a shaft & belcrank on left side, and small pedal on right side. Have only found 1 pic on internet showing this, all others appear to have flat top on diff. What is this?

Can original style hydraulics be added?

I can't find a decal set to match. Mine has the "30" inside 2 concentric circles, on top of an arrow with the tip pointing up. Any thoughts?

Thanks for any info.

I own a Massey Harris 30 that my wifes Grampa bought new I believe. It is a 1946 and has the lift you asked about. I also have the book on the tractor with an attachment inside telling about the lift and how to install it. It says it's for a 101 Jr., 102 Jr., 101 Sr., and 102 Sr. I would be happy to mail you a copy of this if you would like. My tractor also has a belt pulley on the right side. My brother in law said they used it on a silage blower and his grampa had a string hooked to the governor to open it up more when it started pulling down. That's why it burns so much oil now.

My neighbors 30 has hydraulics on it. Im not sure how original it is,but its got a pump bolted down by the front part of the engine(carb side) There will be a plate to cover the hole if not used. If you put one there it can be powered off of your cam gear.. Then the hydralic lines run back to a cylinder that is kind of under the seat.
As far as your decals go I never heard or seen of a set like that. Hopefully someone can shed some light on that cause I'd like to know too.

I think what you are referring to is the arm/lever that was used to raise&lower a mounted cultivator. Just under the seat and to the left was a shaft that rotated. It would go around 180 degrees each time you hit the foot lever up by the clutch. The pto had to be operating in order for this to work. The section that bolted onto the rear of the tractor hooked up to this arm, then 2 long hollow bars stretched from the back to the front section of the cultivator to raise it. My dad always told me that our 30 was only supposed to be for a 2 row cultivator and the 44 was bigger to handle a 4 row. Regardless, we ran a 4 row cultivator on our 30.
