I need to replace the brake on my IPTO. In the summer the brake would stop the PTO from a stopped engine. Now it turns all the time. Not sure if it will turn an implement in off position. The IPTO setup seems sort of dangerous. It is very easy to hit the lever with your leg and all of a sudden the PTO is turning. If my sickle bar is folded up and this happens, lots of damage. Hooking up the PTO with the engine running would be a disaster if someone just bumped the lever. Has anyone put a lock on the lever or is mine just switching on too fast?

Can the just the pad be replaced by just removing the Hydraulic cover without splitting the tractor? I split the tractor last summer to clesn the filter and it wasn't that big a job. At that time the brake worked fairly well. The brake ring looked ok but I didn't look closely to the pad. With the oil cold, It doesn't work at all. Anyone just replace the pad? I was wondering if I was the only one who thought this thing was a little dangerous. I'm going to design and build a latch that needs to be relaesed to engage but disengages by simply pulling lever forward. I am using a rototiller and when it jambs I need to get it out of gear quickly. I have bumped the lever too many times and had the tiller start running. Not good when the tiller is lifted too high on the 3pt. The PTO shaft doesn't like to run with a right angle bend in it.

Hi,
Yes, the pad can be changed by removing the lift cover. It is quite a difficult job but it can be done.

That's why I always shut down the tractor, not just disengage the pto before getting off of it to work on a baler. I have a fear that one of my dogs or other unforseen person who shouldn't be around could somehow throw it into gear. My ford 3910 is the same way. They are convenient, but the best bet is to shut down the tractor and always keep people and pets away from any implement.

I, also don't like the lever on the IPTO on my 150. Just finished a complete rebuild and attached a post hole digger for a neighbor. My pant leg went over the PTO lever and engaged the PHD while my neighbor was standing very near it.

I'm going to try and install a lock out for the lever. MF should have seen this problem. I did consider the old bicycle thing and roll up my pant leg.

Hi,
If your IPTO brake is not working it really does need to be repaired from a safety point. It will be necessary to remove the hydraulic cover to replace the pad which is about the size of a large postage stamp. From the lever angle it should be easy enough to make up a hook and chain to secure the lever in the 'off' position.
