MF 35 with wagner loader - questions

I'm looking to purchase a utility tractor to do some light earth moving (a bit of excavating/grading). I've come across a restored MF 35 with Wagner step-in loader for $5,800. The tractor has been gone over top-to-bottom and has been repainted. 2,500 hours on the clock. All of this of course, has not been verified by a site inspection yet but it is what the seller is telling me. Will this tractor meet my needs? I want to remove/scrape away 3 feet of ground to expose part of my basement and use the fill to create a level pad for a barn. Is the price in line for this tractor? Is there something better for my stated purpose?
Thanks,
--Bill S.

A box scraper is another option for your job. It depends on how far away your barn is. Another thing you could do is just hire a skid steer to come and do it. It would be faster and you'd probably get a better job. I don't know if ag tractors are best suited for heavy digging. What kind of ground do you have? If it's packed clay will be hard digging. Bill:

I"ve had 2 MF 35s and liked both. Its a nice little tractor but $5,800 is a premium price for a 35 even with a fully hydraulic loader.

Be advised that 35s come either with or without live PTO via a two stage clutch and with gasoline or diesel engines. Those with live PTO and Perkins 3 cylinder diesel engines usually command higher prices.

Since you expect to do light excavating you will need a fully hydraulic FEL rather than a trip bucket.

Finally, unless the FEL operates from a separate front-mounted hydraulic pump it will operate slowly as the tractor pump has limited capacity.
