Dean, how many different air intake combinations are there for a 1960 MF-35 Diesel Deluxe? (Perkins) I ask this because when looking at various photos I find at least two different air cleaner housings, but most of the tractors draw their air from behind the dash. Recently I've seen some 35's with a verticle air intake complete with a dust bowl.(Although they have a slightly different style of hood -overseas mfg.?) The intake comes through the top right side of the hood. My tractor has this setup, and I've often wondered if someone rigged it up, or if it was factory correct. Although it looks like the original tube is long gone, the hole through the hood looks as if it were punched out on a machine, nice and neat. Not like you'd expect if someone just hacked a hole in the hood.

Sorry for the long post

Thanks

Chip

Chip I can remember 3 different air cleaners on the 35s. There was a rectangular shaped one & a round one on the US built 35s. I don't remember what years had what though. As far as I know all the US built 35s drawed there air from under the dash. I have seen some that had a preclean added to them. All of the UK 35 I have seen had a precleaner on them.I always assumed they came from the factory like that.

Thanks for the response, I wish there was someone around with original production records, as I recall, my tractors I.D. tag says it ws built in Detroit, SNM207949. Does anyone know if AGCO has records on these units?

I have a 64 model 35X delux with Perkins. It has the air cleaner on the right with intake through the hood. It is definately factory standard. The tractor was made in Coventry UK.

I have taken the factory precleaner off and replaced with a Donaldson precleaner as we sometomes work in dusty conditions and I like the extra insurance of a good precleaner

As far as I can see from pictures posted here, our european 35'ers are quite different from yours.
I have seen three versions, all Coventry UK made -
one with a Standard Motors gas guzzler, one with Standard Motors non- startable diesel, and one with always- startable Perkins 3 cyl. diesel. You can tell them apart at a distance: The gas guzzler has no precleaner through the hood, the diesels both have, but the Standard has the exhaust stack on the same side as the air intake, and the Perk has them on opposite sides.
(I myself have a gas and a Perkins 35'er)
