MF35 Starter safety switch

I have an industrial MF35 with a 3-speed gearbox plus a high-low shifter. The tractor will only start when the high-low is set to neutral. I assume this is some sort of safety device.

When it"s really cold outside, I can"t get the tractor to crank without messing around with the high-low lever. I think the switch inside is sticky or defective.

How do I get to that switch?

Bi:

A new switch costs about $20-$25 and can be changed in about 15 minutes.

I too have experienced this problem several times, but just as Bob N.Y. says when cold weather arrives, I have told all who use it to be sure to leave the Hi/Lo lever in neutral when they park it, and have not had the problem since. Probably just a little bit of moisture on the switch inside the case and it will stick in the "in gear" position.

I alway leave the range lever in neutral when I park my Masseys in cold weather just for that reason.

Over the years I"ve used 50"s, 150"s, 135"s, 245"s and 255/265"s and have "usually" found the wires/connections to be more of a problem than the switch itself. However, they do wear out. If you search this board for "neutral safety switch" you"ll probably find a lot more info on them. Would not suggest to bypass it either.

Switch is a two post switch on top of the clutch bell housing . It is inline with the high/low shifter rail.

I don't know where the switch is mounted. Go to this ebay site and there is a picture of one. It might help you knowing what to look for on your tractor.
