I have a Massey Ferguson 35 diesel, and the 3 point hitch rises to the top as soon as I start it. It rises somewhat slowly but it at the 2 within 2 minutes. I takes a couple of hours to go back down after I kill it. It has new oil.

Does anyone know what could cause this?

Hi,
I think Dean is on the right trach saying that the control valve is stuck in the pumping position. This I believe is not the cause of the problem. I think that you will find that the aliminium 'oscillator' under the pump is broken. Driven by the eccentric on the pump shaft it sets up a rocking motion which prevents the control valve from sticking. Later tractors had a steel oscillator.
I would suggest that you drain the oil to the level of the bottom bolt and remove the RH side cover. You will see the pump lever at the bottom. Operate the control lever to 'Down' and you should see the pump lever move forward to the discharge position. If it does no do so you can operate the pump lever by hand and the 3-pt should go down.

Bryan:

Most likely the spring loaded control valve is stuck at least partially open.
