I am not real familiar with some of these older units as they are older than me. I found one of these and it has no decals left except it says MF. Looks like a cummins engine and runs real sputtery and blue smoke like crazy till it warms up. It has a front powered axle and a hood to land an air plane on. The fella wants 3800 for it . Any comments

From what you said, it is a Massey 97, same as a Minneapolis G 706 it has 101 hp and has front wheel assist. It is a huge tractor, and yes they will smoke like crazy until they are warmed up. If you have any other questions email me at masseyman89@yahoo.com

I like your discription of a hood you could land an airplane on. Yes indeed it is a landing stip. Never thought of it that way before.

Thanks every one yes it is a 97 made by MM. I will try to post a pic sometime I think I will buy it, are they uncommon ? are they looked down on in MF circles because not built by MF ? It is rusty but red is that proper ? and do they sputter and smoke always until warm ?

Sounds like a Massey Ferguson 95 or 97. They made by Minneapolis Moline.

Is it a 4 wheel drive or two? I am assuming its a 4. If that is the case, there should be a model number on the door (older) or hood on the newer models. Several of the Massey articulated tractors did use a cummins engine. Just need a little more info.
