Does anyone know why some of the 180's were built without 3point hitches? It seems rather odd for a tractor of that size in that era. Were they marketed for a specific reason or part of the country?

I have seen tractors without the three point hitch. Some call them bare backs, I think.

Some larger tractors were bare backs without a PTO shaft. These were bought to pull disk, plows etc: guess these tractors would have hydraulic lines to lift implements.

The model 180 was also sold as a Western. This
explains why no 3 pt. If it is a Western, then it also doesn't have internal linkage and other
mechanism. Chuck

Same reason why you see some 4020 or 4010 Deeres or other tractors out there without them, they were ordered without a 3pt for the purpose of just pulling a plow, if your not going to use a 3pt, why pay the expense at that time. It makes no sense these days to not have on, I have no clue if you can order one without it today or not???? As high as tractors are I don't think I'll really find out, lol.

Local machinery dealer has a Chamberlain [think 3380] without 3 point. It has a mast in front.
They are probably an option.

Hi,
In the UK and I believe Europe some smaller IH models dating from the late 60's were not fitted with a three point because something like an industrial compressor was mounted directly onto the tractor. These were industrial models.
