Venturi Seating?

Does the brass venturi in the carburetor have
to fit tight on the top and bottom flange when
each half of the carb is screwed on tight?.

Mine is a bit loose. I can bend each flange
upward and downward respectively to give a better
seal but because of the scarcity of this part, am afraid to do so. My guess is that it's not that
big a deal.

I'm running a rich fuel mixture and that's
one area I want to fix if need be before I start investigating the problem.

Thanks.

Yes, it does have to fit tight to make the carb run right. Bend away. If you need another one call Motec Engineering @ 765-963-6628. They can get Marvel Schebler part at a fair price. They won't screw you like Dennys will.

I would expect that it should be pretty close, however you might have a problem getting it 100% tight, one reason alone being that a different gasket thickness could make it tighter (if the gasket was thin) or looser (if the gasket was thicker). When you say 'venturi', I am assuming that you are referring to the trumpet or horn-shaped piece in the throat of the carb, is that correct? I wouldn't think they are meant to be bent because in some carbs (even MS ones), that part is cast pot metal (not pressed brass). I guess a guy could 'gasket' the venturi where it sits in the carb casting to get a little closer tolerance to the other half of the carb.

That's right Mike. The metal is very thin
at the lips. Not sure if it fits tight when the
2 halves are together squeezing the gasket.

I thought of forming a piece of copper wire
in a circle to just fit under the lip. Then
getting a piece of pipe and gently push down
to bend the lip.

Don't like to muck around with it though.
Maybe I'll try a thinner gasket.

Thanks guys for the info!.
