Hi everyone, Its been a very long time since I"ve posted here. A friend of mine is willing to help me fix my tractor once and for all. The problem is he is here in Dayton and the tractor is outside of Columbus.

He"s also willing to help me get it provided I somehow find a trailer that will fit my 135. He has a Dodge 2500 Diesel 4X4 and I know the tractor with the Z145 is approx 3,800lbs without calcium.

The poor thing has sat for two years outside although when I come home I retarp it...what should I go through besides the basics, changing all the fluids? Is there anything specfic I should look for or do? Is there also anywhere I can rent a trailer that would fit in Columbus from something like U-Haul?

Despite the high gas/diesel prices I"m looking forward to bringing it here to finally fix it and actually use it. Thanks for any suggestion you can give me

Christos

Christos, I am a U-Haul dealer and rent trailers all the time for hauling tractors. Go to a small dealer not a big center just a small clue. Hauled a Ford 5000 on a U-Haul trailer once and that is heavier than your Massey.

Christos, I'm just south of you in Middletown Ohio and if you can wait until mid to late April you could borrow my trailer. Right now it's in the barn with all of our outdoor furnature piled on it. Depending on the weather and how wet it is we generally get it out about mid to late April. It's a 16 foot 2 axle 7000# gross with brakes on both axles. Let me know if you're interested.

Hi, there are two main problems that you might encounter. If the tractor has been covered the risk of water in the fuel will be reduced. I would suggest removing the fuel filters and draining them. Open the fuel tap and drain off at least a pint and check for the presence of water. If its clear all well and good. Changing the oil in the engine will be good. Also check for any corrosion build-up. The second problem could be the main clutch and/or the PTO plate seized. If the main plate is seized a remedy which works on occasions is to crash it into 4th or 5th (easier downhill), hold the clutch pedal down and slam on the brakes VERY briefly. You may need to do it several times. WARNING> You could break the clutch plate doing this but it does work and will save you a lot of work if you had to split it.
You mention high gas prices. What are you paying at the moment? In the UK gas is just over $10 a gallon with most of it going to our wonderful government. The exchange rate is nearly $2 to the pound. Does the price vary much around the States. Like to hear from others so please post your local prices and where you are.
Cheers

David, For regular unleaded (87 Oct) its anywhere from $2.97 to $3.14 . For the ULSD my buddy's truck that I'm going to pay for it costs $3.50-3.67 per gallon.

This is all subject to change if Hugo, Iran, Iraq or a refinery catches fire. I sure hope the bubble in the oil market bursts soon...my cost of living has increased 30 percent since Katrina-Rita in 2005 and I haven't had CoLA increase in my wages in almost four years.

Hi Christos,
Thanks for the reply. We need something to happen here as well. The cost of living is spiralling.
Electric, oil,and gas prices are all shooting up, up to 15% at a time. Lot of people, us included are struggling to survive.
Cheers
David

Amen to that, you gotta lie like a rug. A 98 Saturn SL1 weighs 1700 lbs. A 95 Nissan PU 2wd weighs 2600 lbs. Both of these will fit under the U-haul 4K lb requirement. If you pick up and drop off within 24 hours, the rental is only 49.95 but be sure to wash it before you return it or you will be slapped with an additional 50 dollar fee. I caught the fine print within an hour of returning. Also, if you ever get the chance to visit the Uhaul rental in LaValle Maryland, don't. That Iranian is practicing his own form of homeland terror, one customer at a time.

This 65 was fully ballasted with calcium and wheel weights. The U-haul trailer pulled like a dream.

The wheels were turning on this one 23 out of a 24 hour rental. Got my 50 dollars worth.

True enough. There is the odd place that will rent trailers to float a small tractor like this one. My cusion rented one for his tractor, and he told them what it was for. Get a freind to call for you, or call from a freinds place first, to tell where ever you are trying to rent the trailer from, and use sombody elses name, when you call. If they say no, call from home, and say you need to move a full sized van with 4X4, usin your name. The reason for using 2 different phones is for call display, and where ever you rent the trailer from wont know what your hauling.

Do not tell them you are using it for a tractor or they won`t rent to you!
